We join Howard County Library System, the African American Community Roundtable of Howard County, the Howard County Chapter of the NAACP, Columbia Community Care, and the Continental Societies, Inc. Columbia, Maryland Chapter in presenting to you a local author event!

On February 28th at HCLS Elkridge Branch at 6:00 PM we are excited to feature Jonathan McKinney. His memoir The Little Black Boy: The Life of a Poor Kid From the East Side is a story about survival, redemption, and the power of forgiveness. McKinney shares his personal story as a young man growing up on the East Side of Detroit, Michigan and the various challenges he faced during an era marred by gangs, crack, violence, and systemic racism. McKinney says, "My goal is for us to understand that you are not defined by your circumstances, you are not alone, you are worthy of your dreams, and you deserve love, peace, and happiness."

Light refreshments will be served and the first 20 people to arrive will receive a free signed copy of McKinney's book. Copies will also be available for purchase and signing at the event, and copies can also be borrowed using your HCLS Library Card.
