ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, June 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the media center at Patuxent Valley Middle School, located at 9151 Vollmerhausen Road in Jessup, to discuss the detour related to Phase 2 of the Guilford Road and Vollmerhausen Road improvement project.

Phase 2 of the project will widen, add a sidewalk and storm drain to Guilford Road, and will improve sight distance for motorists approaching the intersection of Guilford and Vollmerhausen roads from Carroll Heights Avenue. The traffic signal will also be modified to improve the operation of the intersection. Mary Lane will be widened at the bridge over the Middle Patuxent River tributary and the sidewalk along Mary Lane will be extended over the bridge and connected to the intersection, where two bus stops will be added. Construction of Phase 2 is expected to begin in fall 2019.

While there will be no formal presentation, DPW staff members will be on hand to explain and discuss the planned detour, which will use Vollmerhausen Road, Murray Hill Road and Guilford Road.

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the proposed plans and/or have questions regarding the project should contact Mr. Kris Singleton with DPW’s Transportation and Special Projects Division at 410-313-6138 or email ksingleton@howardcountymd.gov

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call DPW at 410-313-3440 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
