Annual fireworks display features live music, food vendors and more

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Department of Recreation & Parks invite you to join them for Howard County’s July 4th Fireworks celebration at the Downtown Columbia Lakefront. Overlooking Lake Kittamaqundi, the annual celebration of our nation’s independence will feature food vendors, a virtual reality Camaro display and an evening performance by the Columbia Big Band shortly before the fireworks display. The celebration will run from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., with the fireworks show beginning after dark.

“The July 4th fireworks celebration is a Howard County tradition and one my family and I look forward to every summer,” said Ball. “Howard County exemplifies so many of the wonderful things about our country: our diversity, our commitment to creating a better quality of life for all and our beautiful outdoor spaces. We’re excited to return to the Columbia Lakefront for another fantastic evening of fireworks and fun.”

Those wishing to place a blanket or sheet to mark their spot at the Lakefront may do so beginning at 8:00 a.m. on the 4th. In order to protect the grass, those wishing to place a tarp or chair(s) on the grass may do so beginning at 3:00 p.m., and no earlier, that day. Boats will not be permitted on Downtown Columbia’s Lake Kittamaqundi from Wednesday, July 3 through Friday, July 5.

Free parking is available in the parking lots at the Mall in Columbia or off of Wincopin Circle; however, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to avoid traffic congestion. Additionally, Little Patuxent Parkway from Governor Warfield Parkway to South Entrance Road will close at approximately 7:00 p.m. on the 4th and will not reopen until the conclusion of the fireworks.

Attendees are encouraged to download the official “HoCo July4th” app to their smartphone to enjoy a specially curated soundtrack to accompany this year’s fireworks display, as well as access event maps, directions, parking information and vendors. This FREE app is available for download for both iPhone and Android users.

Howard County’s July 4th Fireworks celebration is sponsored by Howard County Government, Visit Howard County, MIX 106.5, the Columbia Association and Pump It Up. For more information on the event, visit www.howardcountymd.gov/july4th
