Join the Howard County Office of Consumer Protection for a public forum highlighting “Hot Topics in Consumer Protection and Advocacy.” The event will feature presentations from a local, state and federal viewpoint, each followed by a question and answer session. An onsite consumer resource fair will include staff from Congressman John Sarbanes' and Senator Chris Van Hollen's offices, as well as Maryland and Howard County government agencies, and representatives from local consumer advocacy groups.
Topics include recent federal and state legislation impacting your consumer rights, upcoming consumer protection initiatives, holiday scams, consumer finance, debt collection, and the OAG’s Health Education Advocacy Unit, the services it provides, and how/when consumers should report concerns to them. Learn about new housing and landlord-tenant initiatives and find out how to protect yourself online when using technology to access financial services (smartphone apps, online lenders, etc.)
Doors open at 1:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Free, but space is limited. Pre-registration is requested, but walk-ins are also welcome. Register now. To request a sign language interpreter or assistance with a consumer issue, call 410-313-6420 (voice/relay).
