Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP)
The Howard County SYEP is a 6-week paid employment and job readiness program designed for youth ages 14 to 24. This opportunity provides hands-on work experience, career exploration, and essential job skills to help young professionals prepare for their future. When does the 2025 Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program application open?
The Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program application is available from March 1, 2025 – March 31, 2025. Applications must be submitted online by the closing date and time to be considered for a position.
What are the dates for the Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program?
The Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program is for six weeks, beginning on July 1, 2025, and ending on August 9, 2025. Participants will be notified of any date changes.
Are there opportunities provided for applicants with disabilities?

Is there a maximum number of years that a youth can participate in the Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program?
Yes, a youth can only participate for two (2) years. This will allow other youth in the community the opportunity to participate.
Who is eligible to participate in the Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program?
To be considered to participate in the program, applicants must be:
- A Howard County, MD resident
- At least 14 years old and no older than 24 years old by July 1, 2025
- Legally eligible to work in the United States
Is there a maximum number of youth in the same household that can participate in the Summer Youth Program?
Yes, only two (2) youth can participate in the Summer Youth Program if they reside in the same household.
Do you need to have a financial institution to receive your paycheck?
Yes, participants in the Summer Youth Employment Program will need to have an account with a financial institution, as Howard County Government does not mail out paychecks. Accepted financial institutions include:
- Banks
- Credit unions
- Online banks (e.g., Zelle, Cash App, or Chime)
Will I be able to work in the career field of my interest?
The Howard County Summer Youth Employment Program staff cannot guarantee that a participant will be placed at a worksite in their desired career field. However, every effort will be made to place participants (ages 16-24) at worksites related to their career interests.
Will youth over the age of 16 be required to have a second interview with a potential worksite?
Yes, participants (ages 16–24) may be required to attend a second or third interview, depending on the worksite supervisor. Candidates' names will be provided to various employers and worksite supervisors to schedule interviews. This process ensures that youth are aware of the expectations and are a good fit for the worksite.
