ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to install a shared-use pathway along northbound Dobbin Road between Oakland Mills Road and Snowden River Parkway in Columbia, is expected to begin on or about Monday, September 5th.
To be completed over four phases, the first phase of the project to be completed will focus on the stretch for Dobbin Road from MD 175 to Columbia Crossing Circle. This phase of the project will include the installation of approximately 1,050 feet of 10-foot-wide asphalt pathway, lighting improvements, pedestrian crossing upgrade at the Dobbin Road/Columbia Crossing Circle intersection and tree replacement. Weather permitting, this phase is expected to be completed by mid-November 2022.
Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place as occasional, temporary lane closures of the right northbound lane along Dobbin Road between MD 175 to Columbia Crossing Circle can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The additional three phases, two of which are located south of MD 175 and currently in design, will be installed at a later date. Upon completion, the finished project will fulfill the objectives of the County’s Pedestrian Master Plan, WalkHoward, providing safe bike and pedestrian access to the Columbia Crossing shopping center.
The project will be complemented by a future Maryland State Highway Administration project to improve the current pedestrian crossing of MD 175.
