ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County project to return the cupola and bell to the top of the Department of Recreation & Parks’ Firehouse Museum, located at 3829 Church Road in Ellicott City, is expected to occur the morning of Friday, October 18th, between the hours of 12:00 to 4:00 a.m. So crews can safely complete the work, Church Road between Emory Street and Main Street will be closed in both directions. Main Street between Old Columbia Pike and Court Avenue will also be closed for brief periods during this time to allow for crane operations, and parking will be restricted in the area. Weather permitting, the work is expected to be completed that same morning.

BGE crews will be on site to assist with the crane operations and no power outages or interruption in services are anticipated.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.

In early April this year, the cupola and bell were removed so structural repairs to the museum could be completed. The museum currently remains closed as renovations continue and is expected to reopen spring 2025.
