ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a community outreach meeting on Thursday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m. in the Roger Carter Community Center’s Caplan Room, to discuss the upcoming tunnel blasting as part of Howard County Executive Calvin Ball’s Ellicott City Safe and Sound plan’s North Tunnel project.
The meeting will consist of a brief overview of the project and a detailed explanation of the blasting work, which is expected to begin on or about Friday, December 20th. The blasting work will take place on an as needed basis and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by winter 2027. The project’s construction manager, Kiewit-Traylor Joint Venture, will also review the blasting procedures, regulatory requirements and expectations. The blasting work will comply with regulatory requirements and has been planned to ensure minimal impact on the community.
Representatives from the project’s design team, Delve Underground and DPW staff, as well as personnel from the County’s Department of Fire and Rescue Services and Police Department, will also be on hand to discuss the project, answer questions and gather public comment.
Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the presentation, will find it posted on the Ellicott City Safe and Sound website following the meeting.
