Howard County Arts Council Exhibit Reception: Paint It! Ellicott City 2019 & Persona

Join the Howard County Arts Council for a free reception for two exhibits: Paint It! Ellicott City 2019 and Persona. Paint It! Ellicott City 2019 features artwork created by juried artists during Paint It!, an annual plein air paint-out in Historic Ellicott City, Maryland. The juror for Paint It! Ellicott City 2019 is award-winning artist Nancy Tankersley. Persona features artworks by Oluwatobi Adewumi, Wynston Edun, Charlotte Mann and Leah Taylor. These four artists create expressive, figurative works which broaden the conversation on how portraiture can evoke persona.

July 4th Parades: River Hill, Longfellow, and Allview
Thursday, July 4
Join Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and come celebrate our nation’s independence with a 4th of July parade.
- 20th Annual River Hill Independence Day Parade – This year marks the 20th Annual River Hill Independence Day Parade, and it’s going to be BIG! The parade will start at 9:00 a.m. and take place along Great Star Drive in the Village of River Hill. For questions or more information, contact the River Hill Community Association at 410-531-1749.
- Longfellow 4th Of July Parade – The 48th annual Longfellow Friends of the Traditional 4th Parade will take place rain or shine, at 10:00 am. It will travel from one end of Hesperus Drive to the other, and return to the school via Eliot’s Oak Road. - Allview Area Community Association Independence Day Parade – The parade begins at noon and starts on Donleigh Drive at Atholton Park and the route goes west before turning sharp left onto Westleigh Drive then proceeds east to Greenleigh Drive, turning left and back to the park. Join Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and our Department of Recreation & Parks for a fireworks celebration honoring our nation’s independence. In addition to fireworks, the celebration includes food vendors and musical entertainment provided by Columbia Big Band. Fireworks start after dark and sure to impress. Sunset Serenades
Wednesday evenings through August 7, 7:00 p.m.

On Wednesdays between July 10 and August 7, enjoy this popular summer concert series. The following groups are scheduled to appear in July:
July 10 – Rhythm Method (Funk, R&B, Soul)
July 17 – Jenee and Black Butterfly (R&B)
July 24 – Sonic Daze (Modern Rock)
July 31 – Columbia Big Band (Jazz/Swing)
The series is free. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, a picnic supper, rent a canoe or paddleboat and enjoy music in the park. Refreshments will be available for sale during Sunset Serenades, at the Centennial Park Adventure Shack. Also, at all Sunset Serenades concerts, the Community Action Council of Howard County, Inc. will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Howard County Food Bank.

Archaeology Lab Day

Soulful Symphony: Slang

Join Soulful Symphony’s for its second performance, “Slang.” Slang is an exploration of modern interpretations of classical music by groundbreaking and visionary composers. The program will include the world premiere of “Slang,” a new work by composer Darin Atwater, excerpts from Atwater’s “South Side,” “Symphonic Dances,” along with iconic works by George Gershwin and Andre Previn and more. Prior to the evening program, there will be a family-friendly Soulful Sound Park, welcoming kids and adults alike to hear stories with orchestra as Soulful transports eyes and ears to a magical submersion of costumes, song and dance.
