The Howard County quarterly flag retirement ceremony is scheduled for 12:00pm, Saturday, August 14, 2021, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 9120 Frederick Road, Ellicott City Ellicott City, MD 21042.
All are invited to observe the patriotic ceremony rendering final honors to Our Nation's Colors. During the ceremony, Veterans, names will be added to the "Honor Roll of Remembrance." This ceremony is done in collaboration with and as a result of significant support from Alan Wilcom, Howard County chief of recycling and waste management.
Organizations represented at the ceremony will be the Howard County Commission on Veterans and Military Families, American Legion Post 156 and 300, VFW Post 7472, Marine Corps league Detachment 1084, the Col. Dorsey chapter Of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Charles Carroll chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and representatives of Gold Star Moms.
There will be a 20-minute period of instruction on flag etiquette starting at 11:30am for all who wish to attend. Tattered flags will be prepared for retirement starting at 8:30am, "coffee and sticky buns" will be provided.
