ELLICOTT CITY, MD –The Loan Closet of Howard County will open for non-contact donations and returns at two locations beginning on Monday, July 6th. The Loan Closet of Howard County provides refurbished durable medical equipment and resources to all Howard County residents and caregivers to improve their overall quality of life. 
 
“Howard County’s Loan Closet is a critical resource for our population and provides the opportunity for all our residents to thrive,” said County Executive Calvin Ball. “Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a greater need for medical equipment and resources for our residents and caregivers. We’re pleased that this service is able to safely accept donations again.” 
  
Donations at the 7125 Riverwood Drive location may be dropped off every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment only. Donations must be made by individuals who are able to independently unload all equipment at the Loan Closet’s loading zone and are willing to receive donation receipts by electronic or traditional mail.   
  
Donations can be made at the Loan Closet’s Durable Medical Equipment Shed located at the Alpha Ridge Landfill from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The Alpha Ridge Landfill is located at 2350 Marriottsville Rd, Marriottsville, MD 21104, and donation receipts will not be provided at the satellite location.   
  
Non-contact equipment distribution remains available at the Loan Closet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Utility Moratorium 

Governor Hogan has reissued the Executive Order that now extends the prohibition of utility turn-offs and late fees through August 1, 2020. This includes electric, gas, water, sewage, phone, cable TV, and internet service. You can view the updated Executive Order here.  
 
“Our residents and community are still feeling the economic impact the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Ball. “We’re thankful the Governor has extended this moratorium and provided necessary relief to Marylanders who are gradually getting back to work and recovering.” 
 


Business Grant Deadline

Business Relief Grants Applications are due today, June 30th. The grants are offered through the Howard County Economic Development Authority and address immediate needs of businesses to respond to the impact of COVID-19. Locally owned retail stores with (fewer than 20 employees), restaurants and farms are eligible to apply for a grant today, please visit www.hceda.org/c19grants
