ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants with a disability and applicants who are a board or staff member of an agency providing services to persons with disabilities, to serve on the Commission on Disabilities. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, November 27, 2019.
“In Howard County, our goal is always to be a model community that provides the best quality of life for everyone. We owe a great debt to the hardworking individuals and groups who serve our residents with disabilities and their families, and those who promote disability rights in our community,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “If you are a person who leads by example on these issues or wants to expand opportunity for the disabled community, I encourage you to serve on our Commission on Disabilities.”
The Commission is comprised of 15 voting members who serve five-year terms and includes people with disabilities, service providers, family members of people with disabilities and the community-at-large. The Commission advises County Government on the needs and gaps in such areas as housing, transportation, recreation, employment, education, community services, treatment, rehabilitation and related matters, which may impede the full integration of persons who have disabilities into the community.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be Howard County residents, 18 years of age or older, have an interest in and/or experience with matters involving persons with disabilities, and be able to attend the Commission's regular meetings which are held beginning each February, on the fourth Monday every other month, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City.
Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they are interested in serving on the Commission by email to kpruim@howardcountymd.gov or by mail, to Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and then to the County Council for confirmation.
