$1.3 million of Howard County CARES Act to be allocated to the Howard County Scholars, Food Access, and Digital Equity programs.
ELLICOTT CITY, MD – County Executive Calvin Ball will be joined by HCPSS Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano, Department of Community Resources and Services Director Jackie Scott, Department of Technology and Communications Director Brandee Ganz, and Leaders of Tomorrow Youth Center Executive Director Dana Carr to announce $1.3 million dollars in CARES Act Funding to support virtual learning support through the county’s HoCo S.T.R.I.V.E.S. (Strategies To Reach an Inclusive Vision and Equitable Solutions) initiative that provides wraparound services to students and families in need.
“I am pleased to announce three new CARES Act funding investments that will help ensure all our students and their families are being supported during this pandemic,” said Calvin Ball. “We are directing over a million dollars toward our Howard County Scholars Program, Food Access through our award-winning Roving Radish Program, and toward Digital Equity for access to broadband and the internet for their virtual learning. HoCo STRIVES was created to support our education outreach efforts. When we created this vision, we could not foresee that it would also play this critical part in our response to a health crisis. But response to crises and resilience is in our DNA and I am so proud of the ingenuity, compassion, and effort that HoCo STRIVES has provided to the most vulnerable families in our community.”
