ELLICOTT CITY, MD – This week, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will join a group of business and civic leaders from the Howard County Chamber of Commerce for an Intercity Leadership Visit to Somerset County, New Jersey.
“We are committed to finding the best practices and best ideas in the nation, in order to strengthen our own local economy,” said Ball. “I want to thank the Howard County Chamber of Commerce for their partnership, both on this trip and all our efforts to create jobs and grow business in our community. I look forward to putting the lessons learned during our trip to work for the people of Howard County.”
The primary goals of the trip are to:
- Introduce the delegation to innovative programs and impactful projects that may be adapted for our community
- Facilitate exchange of best practices and lessons learned among participants
- High-level networking and relationship-building among business and civic leaders
In visiting a location outside of Maryland, elected officials and business leaders will be able to gather ideas and insights from counties overcoming challenges similar to our own. The trip will also create opportunities for relationship and coalition building which will, in turn, enhance community building in Howard County.
To select a destination, a volunteer task force was convened to review numerous peer counties and how they are similar to Howard County. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Somerset County has the highest per capita income in the state of New Jersey and mirrors Howard County in many characteristics.
