ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will recognize May 1st as “Zaching Day” in Howard County. Zachary Lederer started the Zaching Against Cancer Foundation (ZACF) before he passed away of brain cancer at the age of 20 in March of 2014. Zachary's birthday is May 1st and this day will be used to raise awareness and funds for cancer patients and their caregivers.
Zachary Lederer, grandson of Liz Bobo, fought brain cancer twice by the age of 18. During his fight, he created the viral sensation that would come to be known as “Zaching” by striking the strongman pose in a photo taken after his brain surgery. “Zaching” became known across the nation as a sign of strength of hope and was spread by friends, family, athletes, celebrities, and cancer patients alike. ZACF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Columbia, Maryland.
