ELLICOTT CITY, MD – For a second consecutive year, Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks’ Warhawks Field Hockey Club has been selected to host the USA Field Hockey Region 7 Club Championships. The Warhawks will host the 2019 U14 Championships the weekend of June 8th to the 9th at Troy Park at Elkridge. The event will be preceded by a showcase game to raise money for charity on the evening of June 7th.
“As a father of two young girls, I understand the importance and value sports play in a girl’s development, from emphasizing teamwork, hard work and honesty, to helping build leadership skills and self-esteem,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “I am thrilled to learn that USA Field Hockey has once again chosen Howard County as the host for the Region 7 Club Championships, again affording us the opportunity to further empower our young women to be the best that they can be!”
“It’s an honor to host this championship series at Troy Park with the Warhawks Field Hockey Club and to support both local and visiting athletes” said Recreation & Parks Director John Byrd.
The tournament will feature the top field hockey clubs in Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. At this Regional Championship, teams will battle for a spot in the USA Field Hockey U14 National Club Championship, set to take place in July in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The Warhawks Field Hockey Club is looking to again qualify for the U14 National Championships after qualifying last year for the first time in the club’s history.
“The Warhawks are looking forward to working with USA Field Hockey, Howard County and the amazing athletes that participate,” stated Warhawks Field Hockey Club President Lauren
Lacey. “We are excited to continue to grow the game of field hockey at Howard County's beautiful Troy Park.”
The Warhawks Field Hockey Club is a non-profit organization established in 2013 with the goal of providing Howard County and surrounding area young female athletes with a rewarding and highly competitive field hockey experience. The Club has an independent board of directors and is supported by Howard County Recreation & Parks. For more information, please visit www.warhawksfieldhockey.com.
