Women's Equality Day is celebrated annually on August 26th to mark the passing of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, which declared “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." Though many women, particularly women of color, would continue to face barriers to voting due to discriminatory laws, intimidation and other tactics of disenfranchisement, the 19th Amendment remains a major milestone in the push for women's equality in the United States. However, there is more work to be done.
Join the Howard County Office of Human Rights and Equity for a restorative, revitalizing, and inspiring celebration of the continued journey towards women's equality in the United States. Come together in community to celebrate the milestones, mourn the losses, and reaffirm your commitment to achieving true equity for all women in the United States and worldwide.
This special celebration will feature official remarks from the office of County Executive Calvin Ball and a keynote address by Londyn Smith de Richelieu, the first trans woman to join Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott’s cabinet and the inaugural director of the Baltimore City Office for LGBTQ Affairs.
Dinner will be provided. Doors open at 5:30p.m.
Please note: registration is mandatory as seating is limited.
