Police in North Carolina have taken into custody a Maryland man wanted in a non-fatal shooting in Columbia in June. Winston Hughes, 22, with addresses in Laurel and Chillum, is being charged with attempted murder, assault and numerous firearms charges in the shooting of Deandre House, 23, of Baltimore. House was in critical condition with multiple injuries, but has since been released from the hospital.

Howard County police were called June 29 to the 7500 block of Monarch Mills Way for a report of shots fired and discovered House in the parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds.

Through investigation, police identified Hughes as the suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody over the weekend on an unrelated warrant from the Prince George’s County Police Department for second-degree murder. More information about the PGPD case can be found here: https://pgpolice.blogspot.com/2020/09/homicide-suspect-taken-into-custody-in.html

Hughes is awaiting extradition back to Maryland to face the Prince George’s County and Howard County charges.

Anyone with additional information about the Columbia incident is asked to contact police at 410-313-STOP or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov.
