On the third anniversary of the homicide of 25-year-old Meiko Locksley in Columbia, Howard County Police and the Locksley family are joining together to make a plea for new information in the case and announce an increased reward of up to $20,000.
Locksley was shot in the 5500 block of Harpers Farm Road the evening of Sept. 3, 2017. Police have not made an arrest in the investigation and are hoping that new information may help close the case.
“For us, the passage of time doesn’t change our focus on this case. It only strengthens our resolve to get justice for Meiko and the Locksley family,” said Police Chief Lisa Myers. “We will continue to devote resources and attention to this case until we find the person responsible for this terrible, unnecessary tragedy.”
On the night of the incident, Locksley was found with a single gunshot wound to the chest around 10:20 p.m. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later died.
Although detectives have not identified a suspect, they believe the case likely was not random. They have been looking into every potential motive, including robbery, the possibility that it may have been drug-related or the result of an ongoing dispute.
Investigators and the Locksley family are asking anyone with information that may not have been previously shared with police, to come forward.
“Someone out there knows what happened,” said Cory Zirk, commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. “If there was something holding you back from giving information to the police back then, we are asking you to reconsider and come forward now. You may have that one small detail that may seem insignificant to you, but may be the last piece of the puzzle for our detectives.”
Anyone with information may be eligible for reward money up to $20,000 and should contact police at 410-313-STOP or HCPDcrimetips@howardcountymd.gov. Callers may remain anonymous.
