UPDATE (April 29): Through investigation, police located the driver of the Nissan, which was determined to have been stolen from a neighboring jurisdiction. Da’quan Shaheim Smith, 22, of Baltimore, is charged with manslaughter by vehicle and related charges.

ORIGINAL RELEASE: Howard County police are investigating a hit-and-run collision in Ellicott City on Jan. 20 in which a pedestrian was struck and killed.
 
At approximately 4:55 p.m., a vehicle, believed to be a 2013-2018 silver Nissan Altima, was traveling east on Baltimore National Pike at Ridge Road when it struck an adult female pedestrian crossing Baltimore National Pike in a crosswalk. The pedestrian was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead.
 
The striking vehicle did not stop and continued east on Baltimore National Pike. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision. Anyone with information on the striking vehicle or who may have witnessed the collision should contact PFC Colson at 410-313-4750.
