UPDATE: The driver and rear passenger, both pronounced dead at the scene, have been identified as Eric Mutilu, 27, of Columbia, and Ali Mursal Ali, 26, of Columbia. The front passenger, Jovan Roberts, 25, of Baltimore, remains in critical condition at University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Howard County police are investigating a single-vehicle collision in Columbia that killed two people and seriously injured another.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., a 2008 Mazda 3 was traveling north on Snowden River Parkway past Good Hunters Ride when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree in the median. The driver and rear passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The front passenger was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is listed in critical condition.
Preliminarily, police believe speed was a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing. The vehicle occupants’ names will be released when next of kin have been notified.
Snowden River Parkway between Good Hunters Ride and Tamar Drive remains closed.
