Howard County police are investigating a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred in Columbia last night.
At approximately 7:24 p.m. June 12, a 2009 Ford F-250 was traveling southbound on Tamar Drive near Flicker Place when the driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed the double yellow line striking a 2013 Hyundai Elantra and a 1994 Honda Accord.
The driver of the Hyundai, Karen Johnson Battle, 68, of Columbia, was transported to Howard County General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Honda and a passenger in the Ford, both adult males from Columbia, were transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries and have since been released.
The driver of the Ford, Rikelmy E. Beltran-Menjivar, 20, of Columbia, was uninjured and arrested on scene for driving under the influence. His charges include Negligent Auto Homicide while Under the Influence, Homicide by Motor Vehicle while impaired by alcohol, Criminal Negligence Manslaughter by vehicle, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Tamar Drive was closed for approximately 3 hours between Flicker Place and Phelps Luck Drive.
The investigation is ongoing.
