Police officers and members of the community are joining forces tonight, Aug. 3, for National Night Out, an evening of events intended to generate participation and support for local crime prevention activities.
Parties will kick off at 6 p.m. at East Columbia Library (6600 Cradlerock Way, Columbia) where Police Chief Lisa Myers, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and Howard County Council Chair Liz Walsh, Howard County Council Vice Chair Opel Jones, Howard County Council Christiana Mercer Rigby, Senator Clarence Lam and Congressman John P. Sarbanes will welcome community members to the event.
The free kick-off event in East Columbia will feature food trucks, police and fire displays, a deejay, child-friendly activities, games, giveaways, displays from local businesses and community groups and more!
In preparing for National Night Out, the police department’s Community Outreach Division has helped residents organize 20 neighborhood block parties throughout the county. Police personnel and mascots, as well as partners from Maryland State Police, Howard County Sheriff’s Office and Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services, will visit neighborhood parties throughout the county.
