ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians accessing Harpers Choice Middle School in Columbia is expected to begin on or about Monday, August 10. Americans with Disabilities Act compliant sidewalk ramps and a crosswalk will be installed on Cedar Lane just south of Lightfoot Path. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed within three workdays.
A non-standard crosswalk was removed approximately 175 feet north of Lightfoot Path during recent repaving of Cedar Lane. The new crossing will be installed approximately 200 feet south of the former location.
Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed as lane shifts along Cedar Lane can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. In addition, the sidewalks along northbound and southbound Cedar Lane will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the project.
