ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County project to conduct test pitting of existing underground water, sewer, gas and communication utility lines near the intersection of Main Street and Klein Avenue in Ellicott City is expected to begin on or about Wednesday, February 6. Test pitting involves careful excavation of the ground over the utility lines to verify and obtain the actual locations of the lines.
This testing is part of the design effort to enhance the culvert along the Hudson Branch in the area. Weather permitting, the testing is expected to take one week to complete.
Residents and businesses in the area can expect to hear loud noises at times during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., as the equipment utilized can be noisy. In addition, signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place as temporary lane shifts can be expected along Main Street in Ellicott City west of Ellicott Mills Drive and east of Rogers Avenue during construction hours.
This project is a part of Phase 1 of the Ellicott City ‘Safe and Sound’ plan. To learn more about this plan, visit www.howardcountymd.gov/News/ArticleID/1340/News122718.
