ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the Columbia/Ellicott City Room at the George Howard Building, 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City, to present plans for a nearby stream stabilization project.

DPW’s Bureau of Environmental Services plans to stabilize an unnamed tributary to the Hudson Branch in Historic Ellicott City, starting from Courthouse Drive to Parking Lot F near the intersection of Ellicott Mills Drive and Main Street. The stream, which was significantly eroded stream by 2016 and 2018 floods, will be stabilized using wood and rock structures plus bio-engineering planting to re-establish a more natural stream, reduce instream erosion and improve water quality. The area disturbed by the construction will be re-planted when the project is completed. Construction is expected to begin this summer.

The informal meeting will include a brief overview of the project and draft construction drawings will be available for viewing. County staff and the project’s design consultant, McCormick Taylor, will be on hand to answer any questions.

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Mr. Avinash Dewani with the DPW’s Stormwater Management Division at 410-313-6417 or email adewani@howardcountymd.gov.
