ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County’s Department of Public Works (DPW) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Patapsco Room at Howard County Library System’s Miller branch, located at 9421 Frederick Road in Ellicott City, to provide an update on the Valley Mede and Chatham neighborhood flood mitigation efforts in the Plumtree Branch Watershed.

“In addition to our EC Safe and Sound plan, there are many projects happening throughout the watershed aimed at better preparing our county for the full range of storms and keeping the entire watershed safe from flooding. I recently pre-filed legislation to strengthen our environmental regulations, decrease runoff and mitigate flooding. In addition, our proposed projects will improve drainage on our roads to protect against flash floods in Valley Mede and Chatham,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “To learn more about our project designs and add your voice to the conversation, I encourage you to attend our public meeting.”

The meeting will include an informal presentation and open discussion. County staff and project design consultants from KCI Technologies and McCormick Taylor will also be on hand to answer any questions.

Those unable to attend the meeting who have questions should contact Ms. Christine Lowe with the DPW’s Stormwater Management Division at 410-313-0522 or email cslowe@howardcountymd.gov.

An interpreter for people who are deaf or hard of hearing will be available if requested seven working days prior to the meeting. Please call DPW at 410-313-3440 (voice) or use Relay at 7-1-1, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
