ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to implement “green street” improvements at three sites along Patapsco River Road in Ellicott City has begun. Curb bumpouts with bioretention facilities will be installed along two curb sections near the intersection of Orange Grove Court and one at the intersection of Rogers Avenue. The project will reduce roadway runoff and will provide stormwater infiltration, habitat areas and traffic calming. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late December.
"Each day we're working to create a cleaner and more sustainable environment for all our residents," said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. "These much needed improvements will reduce roadway runoff and will help recycle storm water into and recharge our streams and rivers, while creating native habitat areas and calming through traffic."
The project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic.
Construction of this project is funded through a Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays 2010 Trust Fund Grant, administered by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
