ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Today, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball reminded residents and commercial users that masks must be worn at all times when visiting Alpha Ridge Landfill in Marriottsville. Those not complying with mandatory mask-wearing will not be allowed access to the landfill. The landfill is operating with normal hours but should only be used by residents who do not have curbside collection service or who cannot wait until the County’s State of Emergency is lifted. Saturdays are typically very busy, and residents are urged to avoid unnecessary trips. Photos are available here.
“Our landfill employees interact with hundreds of residents each day, and it is our collective responsibility as a community to keep one another safe with the simple act of wearing a mask,” said Ball. “We’re incredibly grateful to our employees who have continued to work throughout this year to keep this essential service accessible for residents, and we must keep them safe. This is non-negotiable. If you must visit Alpha Ridge Landfill, you must be wearing your mask at all times – including when checking in and unloading. Visitors should also be mindful of keeping their distance from others. We’re in a serious situation with community spread and every action matters.”
