ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is currently seeking a student applicant who is interested in serving on the Recreation & Parks Advisory Board. Comprised of eight members, including one student, the Board provides recommendations relating to plans, policies and programs for public recreation, and reviews plans for and holds hearings on the acquisition and development of land for public recreation and open space. The student board member will serve a one-year term from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

“Our young residents are some of our most active in our community, participating in our recreation programs and visiting our parks daily," said Ball. "This is a wonderful opportunity for a Howard County student to have a voice and share their important perspective for the betterment of our community."

To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, enrolled in high school for the 2021-2022 academic year, have an interest in public recreation and be able to attend the Board’s meetings which are held the third Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Conference Room #1 at the Department of Recreation and Parks Headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road in Columbia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, board meetings are currently taking place virtually.

Applicants should send a resume and a brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the Board to Kimberly Pruim either by email to kpruim@howardcountymd.gov or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043.The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for approval and the nominee will be submitted to the County Council for confirmation. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 19th.
