Agenda
Seeking Community Input for The Design of Howard County’s First Public Garden
Attend July 17 Focus Group Meeting from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Howard County’s Department of Recreation & Parks is holding a focus group meeting on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. One hour of the meeting will be used to seek input from residents and community organizations for their ideas on how to design the Public Garden. The meeting will take place at the Department of Recreation & Parks’ Headquarters (7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia, MD 21046).
Howard County aims to create a premier Public Garden destination featuring beneficial-flowering native and non-native plant species from multiple regions for visitors to develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for the value of plants to sustain human life and a healthy environment. It will feature sustainable practices used to build and maintain the Public Garden, showcasing the County’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
The Public Garden will serve as a gathering place for all to deepen their connections to nature, thereby improving their physical and mental well-being. It will be a place of cultivated beauty that mixes a variety of landscape design styles within formal and natural settings to create rich and diverse ways to interact with plants.
Residents will be allowed to speak for up to three minutes per person.
You can sign up to speak at the meeting, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on July 17 or online starting immediately by visiting apps.howardcountymd.gov/E_RAPTestimony/.
