ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The final phase of a transformational Howard County construction project to install sidewalks, curbs and storm drains along Northfield Road in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, January 13th. Part of Howard County’s WalkHoward plan to connect the neighborhood to Northfield Elementary School and Dunloggin Middle School, this last phase of the project will install sidewalk along the north side of Northfield Road. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late-March 2025.

Sidewalks create neighborhood connections and provide our residents safe and healthy transportation options. To help us expand safe, accessible multimodal transportation in Howard County, my Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Budget included a historic $14.7 million in County funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible.

Signs will be posted and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic, as temporary closures of the westbound lane can be expected throughout the project during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
