ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to repair two existing ponds just north of Centennial Lake in Ellicott City, will begin on or about Monday, February 17th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late fall 2026.

The project includes decommissioning a failed stormwater pond at the end of South Meadow Court, adjacent to Centennial Park, and repairing an old, deteriorating sediment pond within the park, located southeast of the South Meadow Court Pond. These repairs will ensure compliance with the current Maryland Department of the Environment standards and regulations, while also minimizing risks to public safety.

During construction, the width of the existing pedestrian trail from the park's northern entrance to Centennial Lake will be reduced to allow construction access to the project site. While the County and its contractors strive to maintain safe mobility in work zones, pedestrians and park users are reminded to stay alert, be cautious of narrow trail sections, and watch for construction vehicles and workers. A map showing project area can be found on the Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Management Division’s "Community Involvement" website under “D-1177 South Meadow/Centennial Park North Ponds Repair”.

Additionally, while the project is not expected to impact the flow of vehicular traffic, signs will be posted in the area to notify residents of the construction, which will take place Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This project is partially funded through the Watershed Protection and Restoration Fund
