Comprised of seven members, the Commission’s responsibilities include reviewing applications for alterations to historic structures, providing advisory comments on subdivision and site development plans for historic structures, providing advice on historical resources, reviewing the historic tax credit program, and updating the historic sites inventory, among other duties outlined by County Code.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, live or own property in the Lawyers Hill Historic District or who have architectural experience or professional experience in the architectural field preferred, meet the qualifications of the Commission, and be able to attend the Commission’s meetings, which are held on the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the George Howard Building in Ellicott City.

The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for consideration. If approved, the appointment will be forwarded to the County Council for confirmation.
