ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A Howard County construction project to improve pedestrian access and safety, while providing vehicular traffic calming along a portion of Baltimore Street in Savage, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, August 30th. Improvements to the curb, sidewalk and drainage along Baltimore Street between Fair Street and Williams Street will be installed. Additionally, the roadway will be resurfaced. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late November.
We continue working to ensure Howard County is a place where people of all backgrounds and abilities can travel freely, safely, and comfortably. As part of our Complete Streets resolution, these improvements will allow for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers to all access and utilize our streets and provide critical connections to our parks and retail in Savage.
Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed, as temporary lane closures can be expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.
