ELLICOTT CITY, MD – The Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Transportation and Special Projects Division and the Office of Transportation will hold a community outreach meeting on Monday, September 23rd at 4:00 p.m., at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory’s Kossiakoff Conference Center in Laurel, to discuss the new extension of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit from Montgomery County to Howard County.
Through the expansion of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit service to Howard County, our residents, employees, and visitors will gain access to efficient, regional transit services in the Washington region. By establishing stronger transit connections with our neighbors, Howard County will continue to be the best place to live, work, play, grow, and thrive for all.
The proposed project will increase accessibility and mobility options by connecting riders to activity and employment centers within Howard County to Montgomery County and beyond. Service within Howard County is anticipated to begin in spring 2026, with stops at Maple Lawn, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and The Mall in Columbia.
While there will be no formal presentation, the design plans will be available for public viewing, and staff members will be on hand to explain the proposed work, answer any questions, and gather public comments.
Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Ms. Caitlin Kovel with DPW’s Transportation and Special Projects Division at ckovel@howardcountymd.gov, or Mr. David Cookson with Transportation at dcookson@howardcountymd.gov. Meeting materials will be available on Transportation’s “Flash Bus Rapid Transit” website beginning on or about September 24th.
