ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the Bureau of Environmental Services will hold a tire drop-off recycling event at the Alpha Ridge Landfill from Saturday, September 9 through Saturday, September 16. Collections will take place 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. each day. Howard County residents may dispose of scrap tires free of charge.
“Tires are a challenging source of waste because of the large volume produced and their durability,” said Ball. “Too often, they end up taking valuable space in landfills. This event is a convenient opportunity for our residents to do their part for our environment by having their old tires recycled and given new life in a wide range of products.”
Residents can bring a maximum of 10 tires to the event; the normal five-tire limit has been waived during this event. Only car, light truck or van tires will be accepted. No commercial generated loads of tires or oversized tires will be accepted. All tires must be off the rim. Residents are required to show a driver’s license as proof of Howard County residency upon entry.
The Citizen Scrap Tire Drop-Off Event is sponsored by the Maryland Department of the Environment and Maryland Environmental Service.
Alpha Ridge Landfill is located at 2350 Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville. For more information, contact the Howard County Office of Recycling at (410) 313-6444 or http://www.HowardCountyRecycles.org.
