ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking members of the general public interested in serving a three-year term on the County’s Commission for Women. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 29, 2024.
Comprised of 12 members, including one student, the Commission for Women helps promote the economic, social and political equality of women in Howard County. Established in 1980, the Commission is tasked with:
- Publicizing services and activities of interest to women;
- Promoting a positive image of women and recognizing their accomplishments;
- Encouraging the expansion of educational and employment opportunities for women; and
- Sponsoring workshops and seminars on issues specific to women.
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be a Howard County resident, 18 years of age or older (for general membership), have an interest in women’s equality and be able to attend the Commission’s meetings. Meetings are generally held the third Wednesday of every month from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in-person at the Department of Community Resources and Services (DCRS) offices at 9830 Patuxent Woods Drive in Columbia, or virtually via WebEx.

The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the County Executive for consideration. If approved, the appointment will be forwarded to the County Council for confirmation.
