On March 17, 2025, County Executive Ball will sign an Executive Order to establish the Economic Competitiveness and Opportunity Now, or “ECON,” Task Force. Comprised of government officials, business leaders, and education partners, the ECON Task Force will develop a comprehensive economic resiliency and competitiveness plan to guide Howard County’s winning economic strategy now and through the next decade.
I am proud to sign Executive Order 2025-03 to establish the Economic Competitiveness and Opportunity Now (or “ECON”) Task Force to ensure that Howard County thrives in the face of threats. Made up of private sector experts, educational and workforce professionals, practitioners and leaders across our major industries, and members of my Cabinet, I have charged this Task Force to work together to recommend solutions for our most pressing economic challenges before us.

Committee Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the Task Force are as follows:

Identify and recommend policies, regulations, strategies, and actions that strengthen Howard County’s economic competitiveness and growth.

Review policies and procedures by departments and agencies that impact businesses’ ability to thrive in Howard County.

Develop a consolidated economic resiliency and competitiveness plan that incorporates short-term and long-term strategies and actions from executive departments and offices represented on the Task Force.

Present recommendations to better assist and expedite local permitting and licensing requirements.
