ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants from the general public interested in serving on the Personnel Board. The deadline to apply for this vacancy is Friday, March 4th.
Our Personnel Board serves an important role to maintain the quality of our workforce, ensure equity, and preserve fairness. I encourage those interested to apply.
The Board is composed of five members, four whom are members of the public and one who is an employee of the Classified Service in Howard County Government. Board member responsibilities include reviewing changes to the County’s Classification and Pay Plans; reviewing rules prepared by the Personnel Officer that provide for the appointment, promotion, demotion and separation of employees on the basis of merit; hearing appeals filed by classified employees and applicants; and reviewing the County’s Employee Manual.
Board members serve overlapping five-year terms or until a successor is appointed. There is no monetary payment for service on the Personnel Board.
To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be members of the public, 18 years of age or older and be able to attend the Board’s meetings and hearings, which are held a minimum of four times a year in the George Howard Building located at 3430 Court House Drive in Ellicott City. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meetings are currently taking place virtually via WebEx. Additionally, while not required, candidates with experience in human resources, personnel matters or other related backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
