Howard County Executive Calvin Ball hosted a kick-off of Howard County Restaurant Weeks & Craft Beverages at Aida Bistro on January 21. Restaurant Weeks, in partnership with Visit Howard County, will run from January 20 – February 2, 2020. There are nearly 40 restaurants, craft breweries, and distilleries participating with special fixed-price menus.

Recreation & Parks' sharpshooting deer management program is held to help maintain a stable, balanced, white-tailed deer population on county park lands where deer browsing has been shown to reduce biodiversity.

The County’s Department of Public Works will hold a public meeting on Thursday, January 23 to present plans for a project to stabilize an unnamed tributary to the Hudson Branch in Historic Ellicott City. The stream was significantly eroded stream by 2016 and 2018 floods.

A Howard County construction project to restore and stabilize approximately 1,200 linear feet of stream channel adjacent to 8409 Sweet Cherry Lane in Laurel is scheduled to begin on or about Tuesday, January 21. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late October.

Progress toward identifying the future site of High School #14 continued today as Environmental Site Assessments of the Timbers at Troy and Troy Park at Elkridge properties were released, evaluating the environmental condition of each potential location.

Howard County is pursuing legislation to update the County Code to enable the permit process to allow electric scooter sharing companies to operate in public areas, such as pathways, streets, sidewalks and bike lanes.

A Howard County construction project to improve stormwater drainage west of Doves Fly Way in Laurel is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, January 15. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by early March.
