Only Howard County generated residential and commercial solid waste is accepted.

All commercial vehicles delivering solid waste to the landfill are required to purchase a nontransferable commercial landfill permit at an annual charge and follow all landfill rules; no commercial vehicles will be permitted to use the landfill without a permit.

All permits are valid for the period from July 1st through June 30th.

All commercial customers delivering Howard County-generated solid waste to the Alpha Ridge Landfill are required to have an active commercial landfill permit for each vehicle. The annual charge for each commercial permit is $30 and all customers must follow all landfill rules.

How do I renew my commercial permit?

For existing customers who have previously obtained a commercial permit, please use the Existing Customers link to renew your permit. Permits are valid for the duration of the fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

How do I apply for a new permit?

If your business has never had a commercial permit, please use the New Customers link to apply for a permit. Before applying, you must create a login to our Service Now portal. Once logged in, you may proceed to the commercial permit application.

After submitting your permit request, please head out to the landfill to receive your permit account number and RFID sticker for your commercial vehicle.

How do I open a charge account?

Content

Charge Accounts are available to those customers with commercial landfill permits. The charge account allows the holder to be billed at the end of the month for landfill usage and fees instead of immediate payment at the landfill.  This account uses a deposit held in a non-interest-bearing account of the amount of 1.5 times the average monthly charges. Please complete the Landfill Credit Application form below. See rules on page 2 of the application for application instructions. 

Please allow five business days for the County to process your application prior to coming to the landfill to drop off material.

Unless your business has an active charge account, all payments occur at the scales. There is no online payment processing at this time.
