Howard County Executive Calvin Ball Cuts Ribbon on Largest Flood Control Project to date in Historic Ellicott City Watershed
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today cut the ribbon on the largest Ellicott City public works project constructed to date designed to prevent stormwater from reaching Historic Ellicott City during major weather events. The H-7 pond, constructed on state land in a clover-leaf interchange at the intersection of Route 29 and Route 40/Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City, can hold enough runoff to cover a football field to the height of 10 feet.
Cardinal Forest Stormwater Pond Repair to Begin
A Howard County construction project to repair and improve a stormwater management pond adjacent to 8825 Cardinal Forest Circle in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Tuesday, November 1st. While the project is not expected to impact traffic flow, a temporary lane closure along Cardinal Forest Circle in the vicinity of the project may be required during material deliveries. Additionally, a portion of the sidewalk adjacent to the work site between 8833 and 8825 Cardinal Forest Circle will be closed to pedestrians for the duration of the project. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late February 2023.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Department of Housing and Community Development have announced next steps for Howard County’s historic Housing Opportunities Trust Fund. Now through November 4, 2022, applicants are being sought to serve on the Housing Opportunities Trust Fund Advisory Committee, which will assist in oversight of the fund.

The Howard County Health Department announced the expansion of services at School-Based Wellness Centers located in 11 Howard County Public Schools, as a result of $815,000 in additional funding from the Maryland Department of Health (MDH).
