Howard County Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Management Division will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, January 25th to present plans for its Many Mile Mews stormwater pond repair project.

A Howard County construction project to extend the sidewalk along eastbound Whiskey Bottom Road to Moonshine Hollow and Old Lantern Way in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Monday, November 14th. A Howard County construction project to install 30,000-gallon fire suppression tank adjacent to 15959 Union Chapel Road, is expected to begin on or about Monday, November 7th. The project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic in the area and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by late November 2022.

The Howard County Police Department will receive recognition for incorporating effective crime prevention programs as an integral part of an overall community policing initiative. Additionally, Howard County will be recognized for a major and effective Violent Crimes Reduction Initiative, which entailed a months-long effort that focused resources on criminal networks and street gangs and resulted in multiple arrests.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Howard County Conservancy are announcing that the process for selecting properties for a new landmark environmentally sensitive land preservation program has officially launched. Local non-profit organizations can now formally express interest in participating in the Purchased Conservation Easement pilot program.

Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers, courts and animal shelter will be closed on Friday, November 11th in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. However, regular Friday trash, recycling, yard trim and food scrap collection services will be in effect and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.

Altogether, police closed 16 vehicle thefts with these arrests.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants interested in serving on the newly established Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Commission. This is the first AAPI Commission established in Howard County history. The deadline to apply is Friday, November 18, 2022.
