Human Rights Commission Seeks Nominations for 2023 Human Rights Commission Awards
The Howard County Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for its 2023 James E. Henson, Sr. and Jean W. Toomer Individual, Dr. Murray Simon Student and Colette Roberts Organization awards. Presented annually, these awards honor individuals and community organizations who have made significant contributions to human and civil rights in Howard County.
Howard County Department of Public Works to Host Public Meeting for Rogers Avenue Improvement Project
The County's Department of Public Works’ Transportation and Special Projects Division will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 1st to present plans for a multi-modal travel improvement project along Rogers Avenue between US 40 and Courthouse Drive, which will include the widening of Rogers Avenue. Weather permitting and pending final land acquisition, the project is expected to begin this summer and take 24 months to complete.

Frederick Road Sidewalk Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to construct sidewalk along Frederick Road near Centennial Lane in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, May 15th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the middle of June.
Montgomery Road Sidewalk Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to extend the sidewalk along eastbound Montgomery Road from Rowanberry Drive to Timberlee Road in Elkridge, is expected to begin on or about Thursday, June 15th. Weather permitting, this entire project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

Remembering Lieutenant Nathan Flynn on 5th Anniversary of Line of Duty Death
This Sunday, July 23rd marks the fifth anniversary of the passing of Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services Lieutenant Nathan “Nate” Flynn. At just 34 years of age, Lieutenant Flynn died in the line of duty in 2018, while battling a house fire in Clarksville, Maryland.

Howard County Issues a Heat Alert in Response to High Temperatures
In response to the forecasted high temperatures and heat index, Dr. Maura J. Rossman, Howard County Health Officer, has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Thursday, July 27 to Saturday, July 29 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with high temperatures expected to be in the mid to high 90s.
