Howard County Commission on Disabilities Seeks Nominees for 2023 Annual Awards Program
The Howard County Commission on Disabilities is now seeking nominations for its 2023 annual awards program. These awards recognize individual achievement and outstanding efforts of those who advance full participation in community life for all residents, while promoting the spirit and intent of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other disability rights laws. The nomination deadline is Monday, August 21, 2023.
Howard County Government Closings for July 3rd and July 4th for Independence Day
Howard County Government offices and more to close Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th for the Independence Day holiday. There will be regular Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim and food scrap collection on the 3rd; however, there will be no Tuesday collection on the 4th. The County's holiday slide schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week, with Tuesday collection being picked up on Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday and so forth.

Maryland’s Prestigious Emergency Management Project of the Year Awarded to Howard County’s Ellicott City Safe and Sound Outdoor Tone Alert System
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today announced the Office of Emergency Management has won the prestigious Emergency Management Project of the Year. Awarded by the Maryland Emergency Management Association in the category of Mitigation/Prevention, the statewide honor recognized the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) Outdoor Tone Alert System in Historic Ellicott City.
Section of Old Columbia Pike to Temporarily Close for Ongoing Water Main Rehabilitation Project
Beginning on or about Monday, July 10th at 9:00 a.m., Old Columbia Pike from Tollhouse Road to Main Street in Ellicott City, will be closed to all-thru traffic as part of an ongoing water main placement project along Old Columbia Pike. Weather permitting, this section of Old Columbia Pike is expected to reopen on or about Monday, August 7th.

This annual event draws more than 50,000 visitors to the Lakefront in Downtown Columbia and this year's event will include food trucks and live musical performances.
