River Road Retaining Wall Rehabilitation to Begin
A Howard County construction project to replace a damaged retaining wall approximately 0.4 miles north of 560 River Road in Sykesville is expected to begin on or about Monday, August 19. During the project, the roadway from the south end of River Road to the project site will be closed to thru traffic. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late September.

County Executive Ball Announces $8.1 Million Grant For New Cut Road Repair
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced that the County has received a grant award of up to $8.1 million from the National Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) to rebuild the portion of New Cut Road that washed away in the May 2018 Ellicott City flood. The County estimates that all work will be completed, and New Cut Road will re-open, between July - September of 2020, weather permitting.

Coronavirus Updates: Testing Data Added to Dashboard, Health Enrollment Deadline, Rec & Parks Updates
Howard County has updated its COVID-19 Dashboard to include testing data. The fifth section of the dashboard details the seven-day rolling average positivity rate, the number of tests administered daily, and overall tests administered. The case summary section now also includes a seven-day rolling average of confirmed cases.

Howard County Business Relief Grant Application Information
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and the Economic Development Authority (HCEDA) released application instructions to access the $5.7 million in Business Relief Grants allocated to Howard County. The grants provide financial assistance to businesses in targeted sectors that have been most impacted by COVID-19 and plan to re-open. Applications will open at 7 a.m. on June 11, 2020 and close at 11:59 p.m. on June 17, 2020. Howard County Notes Concerning Opioid Trend
Though Howard County has seen a 27% decrease in nonfatal overdoses in 2020 compared to this time last year, there has also been a 10% increase in fatal overdoses compared to the previous year. Howard County’s numbers are a part of a larger trend nationally and across jurisdictions suggesting that the COVID-19 pandemic increases risk factors for people with substance use disorders.
