Howard County Government Closings for Indigenous Peoples’ Day on October 12
Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and Robinson Nature Center will be closed in observance of the Indigenous Peoples’ Day holiday on Monday, October 12. Howard County’s rate is one of the lowest of the 24 Maryland counties. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in February, Howard County reported a 2.7% unemployment rate.

Howard County North Laurel Connections Project Receives State Grant Towards Construction
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced today that the County’s Office of Transportation has been awarded a Kim Lamphier Bikeways Network Program grant from the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) for its North Laurel Connections project. The more than $500,000 grant will assist the Office of Transportation in constructing a 5.6-mile bicycle and pedestrian route between Savage and Laurel.
