Howard County Government Closings for Labor Day Holiday on September 5th
Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 5th. As there will be no Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Labor Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week.
Ducks Foot Lane Stream Restoration Project to Begin
A Howard County construction project to stabilize a significantly eroded stream near 3951 and 3959 Ducks Foot Lane in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Tuesday, September 6th. The project is not expected to impact traffic flow and weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late November 2022.
Old Montgomery Road and Tamar Drive Intersection Improvements to Begin
A Howard County construction project to install a roundabout at the intersection of Old Montgomery Road and Tamar Drive near Jeffers Hill Elementary School in Columbia, is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, September 12th. Signs and flagging operations will be in place to direct traffic as needed during construction hours, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as lane shifts and temporary lane closures are expected. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late November 2022.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball Announces Largest Annual Native Tree Giveaway for County Residents
Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has announced another round of the County’s annual native tree giveaway, with sign-up set to take place Wednesday, September 7th. New this year, residents will have the opportunity to register for a tree at two different times, with half the trees available at 2:00 p.m. and the second half available at 7:00 p.m. At these times, the link to reserve your tree – limited to one tree per household, will be posted on the Department of Recreation & Parks Natural Resources website under the “Annual Tree Giveaway” dropdown.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has announced applications are now being accepted for the County’s latest round of its Route 1 Tax Credit Program. Administered by the County’s Department of Planning and Zoning, this program offers up to $100,000 in funding per site to commercial and industrial property owners along the Route 1 corridor to assist them with renovating and improving the appearance of their properties.
