Howard County Government Closings for the Independence Day Holiday

Tiber Branch Sewer Improvement Project to Begin
The first phase of a Howard County construction project to rehabilitate an aging sewer main along Frederick Road between Toll House Road and Klein Avenue in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, June 29. Weather permitting, the first phase is expected to be completed by early July.

Howard County Recreation & Parks to Provide Childcare in Public School Buildings Starting on July 6
Howard County Recreation & Parks (HCRP) will begin childcare services, including all-day camps, in nine Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) buildings on July 6th. HCRP has traditionally provided all-day and half-day camps during the summer months at HCPSS buildings. In addition to childcare camps, HCRP will resume indoor camps at their community centers, historic sites, nature center, athletic complex, and smaller county-owned facilities on July 6th.

Howard County Receives $109k in Grants for Sustainability Projects from Maryland Energy Administration
The Howard County Office of Community Sustainability (OCS) was awarded two grants, totaling $109k, from the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA). OCS received a $9k grant to plan a Combined Heat & Power (CHP) system at the Howard County Detention Center and up to $100k to plan a microgrid project at the George Howard Complex and the Roger Carter Center.

Severe Thunderstorms Trigger Ellicott City Safe and Sound Alarms and Debris Clean-Up
Today, County Executive Calvin Ball announced the Ellicott City Safe and Sound’s stream debris removal program was triggered by last night’s severe thunderstorms. The Ellicott City Outdoor Tone Alert system was also triggered, for the first time since installation, after the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning.

Howard County Extends Business Relief Grant Application Deadline and Expands Eligibility
Howard County has extended the HoCo RISE Business Grants deadline to Tuesday, June 30, 2020 for all three grant programs. The Storefront Retail grant now has an expanded list of eligible businesses to include other types of storefront service providers that were forced to close or operate at limited capacity. This includes, but is not limited to, fitness facilities, fine art studios, dry cleaners, and other service providers. Applications will remain open until Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at 11:59 pm.

Coronavirus Updates: Data Trends, Rec & Parks, Bike Share Reopening, Twin Freedoms Day
Howard County continues to see COVID-19 data trending in the right direction. Howard County Health Department now has 45 contract tracers working to trace and investigate COVID-10 confirmed cases in the county. Cited in the HoCo RISE plan, the Center for Health Security at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health estimated 15 contact tracers per 100,000 population needed. Howard County is still onboarding additional contact tracers.
